Wicksteed Park is currently undergoing a major £2million lake restoration project, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, to encourage people to enjoy its 147 acres of countryside. In addition to the lake development Wicksteed are doing significant new planting and also adding new tree-lines, removing old trees and making other general improvements.
The most exciting addition is the new £200,000 zipline – called Rush. This will see thrill seekers travel along the 310m line at up to 40mph, and will be open in time for this year's JAE.
Rush is being opened for the new season as part of the ongoing improvement work at the park, which has included a £2m restoration of the lake.
Wicksteed Park managing director Alasdair McNee said: “Rush is a perfect example of the type of innovative, adventurous play and excitement we want to encourage at the park. Charles Wicksteed was an innovator and, although the park has rollercoasters and rides, we want to encourage children and families to use their imagination and have fun in different ways too. People often say that getting married is like a rush of excitement on the happiest day of your life, so we thought having a newly-married couple of launch our ride would be the perfect start. It would certainly be a memorable start to their honeymoon and be a unique and unforgettable part of their big day.”
Rush will feature a trio of zip wires to allow families and friends to take the plunge together. People taking part will be able to wear helmet cameras to record their descent for a souvenir video. It will also include a Leap of Faith, allowing people to dive from a 10m high platform with only a support harness to break their fall, and a 14m climbing wall.
